He bends the tall grass

New Works Festival | 26th February | 7pm | QMU Venue

After an mysterious incident in a nursery, Emily, a social worker, must travel to a remote island off the Eastern coast of Scotland to ensure a child’s safety. Once arriving to Mairi and Alistair Mallachd’s farmhouse, she meets their young child…only it isn’t a human child, but a wooden figure that silently dictates their every move within the house. The couple claim that the tall grasses behind their home have granted them the family they have always wanted. As Emily’s visit continues, she begins to question who the real victim is.

A modern spin on the concept of a folktale, ‘He Bends the Tall Grass’ examines parenthood, bodily autonomy and the lengths some will go to for ‘the perfect family’.
