Calendar: hover over dates to see what's happening!
STAG is a society that prides itself on the diverse number of ways there are to get involved. We offer opportunities in almost all capacities; writing, acting, directing, backstage, tech, and the running of the society itself through the STAG Board. How to get involved with each area will be specified below, but note that all opportunities will be advertised through our Newsletter.
Auditions will be advertised through our Newsletter and events through Facebook. These will be advertised once the date has been decided between the board and directors and will be open to both members and non-members. We also aim to advertise many non-STAG opportunities that we are contacted about. There is a range of productions to get involved with throughout the year for a variety of skill levels, all of which can be found on the Home page.
BACKSTAGE & Tech
If you would like to get involved in a backstage or tech capacity, then email our Backstage Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org or our Technical Manager at email@example.com and they can fit you in where possible! Specific call-outs for sound and lighting teams, as well as stage managers will be advertised as they come up, but we are always looking for as much backstage help as possible, for the many different productions we put on.
WRITING AND DIRECTING
Opportunities for writers mainly lie with the festivals, STAG Nights and New Works. STAG Nights selects 9 short plays based around a theme and New Works accepts 6 plays, 3 short and 3 long. Specific details of the festivals can be found on their pages and it will be advertised when submissions open.
If you wish to apply for any of the above, you will have to submit an artistic proposal once submissions are open. Guidelines on how to propose, as well as the proposal forms, can be found here. For the festivals, your proposal will be submitted to a committee and chosen amongst the other plays, for the other shows, once you have submitted your proposal you will be asked for an informal interview to discuss your idea in more depth with the board. It should also be noted that, due to the nature of New Works being a competition, all submissions for this should be anonymous.
STAG offers a variety of workshops open to both members and non members. These are a great way to get involved with STAG casually, or if you aren't part of a production. They vary on a range of topics and typically get advertised weekly. For more information, go to the Workshops page.
The board are responsible for the daily running of STAG, ensuring and overseeing the entire process of each production, from selecting the plays all the way to the final show night (and the after party). If you would like to know more about what each specific board member does or get in contact, then you can find them on the Board Page. If you would like to become part of the board then we hold annual elections every May, more information about which can be found here.
If you don't want to run for a board position, you can still get involved in a organisational capacity by joining one of our committees. Both STAG Nights and New Works need committees in order to read and select the range of plays that we receive, as well as to assist in the smooth running of the festival as a whole. As with many of our other opportunities, it will be advertised when applications for these positions become available. When they do, simply email the appropriate VP at either:
firstname.lastname@example.org to express your interest.
